Instructions for Using and Completing the Data Analysis Chart

Part 1:

Enter the Average Drop Time that you already calculated and recorded on the Data Collection Chart for your lightest weight ball in the second column on the Data Analysis Chart having the column heading "Average Drop Time For The Lightest Weight Ball". The first entry should be "0" corresponding to the "0" height in the first column of the chart. The second entry will be your calculated Average Drop Time for the 10-inch height from your Data Collection Chart. (Note that if you are using the provided sample test data, the entry will be ".215" for the 10-inch height for the lightest weight ball, the Nerf ball.)
Continue to copy all of your Average Drop Times for the appropriate height in the three columns provided for (1) the lightest weight ball, (2) the medium weight ball and (3) the heaviest weight ball. Remember that each column will begin with "0" for the Average Drop Time for the height zero inches.
When you have completed listing the Average Drop Times for each ball on the Data Analysis Chart, all of the Average Drop Times for each ball for the same height will appear on the same row of the Data Analysis Chart.
Now stop and answer the 4 questions listed in the Student Activity: Exploring Gravity experiment procedures. Record your answers for these questions on paper. These questions are to be turned in to your teacher along with the completed Data Collection Chart.

*** These 4 questions are to be completed before proceeding to Part 2 of the Instructions for Using and Completing the Data Analysis Chart. ***

*** The students will verify their 3 graphs by plotting the data on the graphing calculator before proceeding to Part 2 of the Instructions for Using and Completing the Data Analysis Chart. Instructions for Plotting Data on the Graphing Calculator may be found in the Data Analysis section of this web site as well as in the Documentation section. ***

***After the students have verified their 3 graphs by plotting the data on the graphing calculator, the students will have a check point with their teacher BEFORE proceeding to Part 2 of the Instructions for Using and Completing the Data Analysis Chart.
