Math 0306 - Lab Assignment Week 3

 

Part 1

Brush up on your fraction skills. Answer the following questions by showing an equation with fractions first and then solving. Turn in all your work.

1. How many fourth acres are in a 15 acre plot?

2. How many gold rings weighing 6/5 grams can be made from 12 grams?

3. A normal glass can hold 8 oz, which is 1/4 quart. How many glasses can be filled with 3 quarts of juice?

4. A truck can carry 9/2 tons. A contractor orders 2/3 of a load. How many tons is that?

5. A particular stock costs $25-1/3. How many shares can be bought with $228?

6. An advertiser claims that his product is 1/3 cheaper than his competitors. The competitors products costs $48. How much is the advertisers product?

7. CAREFUL: An advertiser claims that his product is 1/3 cheaper than his competitors. The advertisers products costs $48. How much is the competitors product?

(Hint: Use problem 6 to figure out what you need to calculate to get from the advertisers price to the competitors price.)

8. How many pieces of 12-1/8 in. board can be cut from a board that is 60 in. long?

Interact Software can be found on the Computers in the Math area of the ELC. Click on the "puzzle" icon, and choose MATH 0306.

Choose the chapter which gives you the most difficulties.

Don't forget to make a print-out after you are done. Turn-in the print-out (add your name) on Monday.

Videotapes accompanying the textbook can be checked out in the Library.

Find the correct tape by checking the icon in your book. After watching the tape, write a short evaluation about what did/did not help you, and what could be improved. Make sure you indicate which sections of the tape you watched.
