Studying Effectively
- Avoid cramming sessions. It is more effective to study in
several short periods than in one long one. The more difficult the
material, the shorter each study session should be.
- Take regular breaks. Do not study more than one hour without a
break. Learning decreases if you study for long periods of
time.
- If you have to study a lot of material of one subject at one
time, take breaks.
- Find your best study time. Every person has different levels
of energy during the day. Find your best level for studying
difficult subjects.
- Do not study when you are tired. If you are unusually tired,
it is better to take a short nap or do a relaxation exercise
before studying, even if it cuts into your study time. Your study
time will be more effective.
- When studying more than one subject in one study session,
start with the most difficult subject. You will be most refreshed.
Alternate the types of subject. Separate math and science for
example.
- For some people, it is effective to study the same subject at
the same place and the same time every day. This trains the brain
to think "math" when you need it.
- To make the best use of your time, understand how to solve a
problem first. Then practice how to do it. Practicing problems you
understand will help you to solve them faster and with fewer
mistakes. Do additional practice problems until you can solve this
type of problem automatically.
